About Dr. Alejandro Canonero

Dr. Alejandro Canonero

Ecosystem Strategist. Author. Commander.

The operating record

Dr. Alejandro Canonero is the BytePlus leader for Latin America and the Middle East and Africa, based in Dubai and operating between the UAE and Spain. He is the founder and Managing Director of Ecosystem Strategy Services FZ. Across thirty years he has held leadership roles at AWS, Google Cloud, ByteDance, Criteo, Teradata, HP, Documentum EMC, Dell, and Kyriba. He was a founding member of the AWS Marketplace team in EMEA and the AWS partner team for the public sector. As leader of the Google Cloud global partner ecosystem public sector team he drove strategies that compounded ecosystem development, social inclusion, market share, and revenue growth. At Criteo, the first French unicorn listed on NASDAQ, he built the indirect channel strategy and partner program from zero.

The frameworks

Three practitioner-proven and academically tested frameworks anchor his work. Platform Envelopment. Minimum Viable Ecosystems. Ecosystem Commander. Built on five years of doctoral research and thirty years of operational execution. Deployed by his clients and grounded in his book, War of the Ecosystems.

The academic foundation

PhD in Business Administration with research focused on cloud, SaaS, marketplace, and AI platform ecosystems. MBA from London. Bachelor in business secured on a Rotary Club scholarship after high school scores were the only currency available. He had no money for books or tuition. He won the scholarship anyway. He completed the doctorate while working full-time and raising a family.

The personal record

Born in the slums of Argentina. Survived a kidnapping. Pivoted to London. Five Full Ironman triathlons. Certified Ironman triathlon coach. Scuba diving instructor. Shark diver. Volunteer with Spain's Civil Defense Organization and Scout group leader. Father of four. The discipline that compounds in the operating record is the same discipline that compounds in the personal one.

Resilience became his shield, his lifelong quest for knowledge his sword, and his relentless pursuit of improvement his guiding star.

From the front matter of War of the Ecosystems.
